The Set List
Top 10 OPs of 2014

by Jacob Chapman,

Welcome to the very first edition of The Set List! Ah, there's nothing quite like that new column smell, now with the sweet aroma of video. As a sister series to The List, this column will be counting down music-themed superlatives in anime, video games, and other Japanese geek media every other Tuesday, starting with a rundown of the Top Ten OPs of 2014. However, since writing about music is like dancing about architecture, (according to Martin Mull anyway,) The Set List will be an audiovisual experience, with a video countdown so you can hear the entries for yourself. Please note that we're still working out html5 functionality for our video player, so for the time being, please bear with our Flash player.

Now while many Set List installments will revolve around OPs and EDs of various years and genres, the musical possibilities for subject matter are endless, so let us know in the forums what kind of music-themed countdowns you would like to see! Also note that for this and any other "Top Ten of (Year)" countdown, I'm only counting shows that debuted in that year. I count returning seasons or cours, but not continuous long-running shows that had OP #23 or so air in that year. Don't worry! Shows like Naruto, One Piece, etc., will get their very own columns just for this purpose. So with no further ado, let the music play!

This Week's Set List Poll

Didn't see your favorite song on the list? Cast your own vote in the poll below! There's a whopping 50 options listed, but also a write-in box for anything I neglected to include.

Pick as many or as few faves as you like, and in two weeks we'll have the results and a new poll ready to go. See you in two weeks!
