What a great interview! I'm always happy to see and hear more Crystal Kay!

I hope she gets a chance to work on both Sailor Moon and Ghibli in the future. I think the first 20th (?) anniversary album for Sailor Moon was good, but the ones that followed got too same-y, and it would be cool if they did another anniversary album soon. I hope we can have some C-Kay music on there! And Eternal Memories is still one of my favorite songs of hers, I actually think that vibe suits Ghibli well. Here's hoping for her success and luck with those ambitions.

It's great to hear that she found her footing with her identity too. I remember how people would talk about her back in the day, and depending on if they were into K-Pop, a weeaboo or what, it would vary quite drastically. And of course, there were also mixed race people that just saw her as an inspiration.

I enjoy her recent single, and I'm glad she's been having a comeback, so here's hoping that can spread to anime again as well.

I actually discovered Crystal Kay via m-flo, with the latter of whom I discovered via former ANN-columnist Bamboo Dong about 18 years ago. She gave me some sample tracks of of their collabs from their Loves... albums, before I actually got into FMA and heard her, there. And at the time, I felt Kay brought a very distinct R&B-kind-of-sound to the J-Music scene, which I thought sounded really cool, and I've never forgotten her, since.

Thanks for the interview, it's great stuff!

I'm just gonna' leave this Youtube link for the collab Reeewind! she did with m-flo that got me into diggin' her sound, all those years ago. It's still my favorite song of hers!

I first learned about Crystal Kay through FMA and I've been a fan of hers ever since and still come back to her music often. I always thought she had a refreshingly unique sound when I feel like a lot of J-pop singers can have a sameyness to them where they all kind of blur together at times but she always stood out to me.

I like Attitude from PaRappa the Rapper anime myself. That's mainly where I know her from.
