When I was asked by one of my foreign language teachers what I wanted my name to be, I never once thought “Optimus Prime”. That’s like saying you want your name to be Skeletor or Cheetara or Mountain Dew.

You’d be surprised at how weird people can be either when it comes to naming their kids or changing their names legally.

I thought people can't legally change their name to an existing trademark or celebrity (including names of characters) for this exact reason.

If I had to guess there's probably a legal loophole about freedom of speech or something.

Reminds me of someone who legally changed their name to "Megatron" because of a contest.

No, there are no protections like that in the US.

Sometimes I am, but most of the time I just feel bad for the person with the rather unique name. I used to work someplace where many others had unique names. My favorite was someone whose name was based on the word “chandelier”. I got the biggest kick out of calling for them over the PA system.

I can't believe what I've just read. A guy named Optimus Prime Blakely was just arrested for car theft? I don't know which is dumber, the fact the guy stole cars or the guy's was named after a Transformer. I'm not sure whether to feel sorry for him because he has such a silly name or angry at him because he snatches cars.
