I applaud your knowledge and enthusiasm in bringing this franchise to the forefront. I always thought: "the more characters in an RPG, the better," as I feel it adds so much more diversity, so I hold the Suikoden franchise in pretty high regard.

I'm only about 10 hours into Eiyuden Chronicle, right now, but there's so much stuff in it that reminds me of Suikoden I. And while it's sad Murayama is no longer with us, I'm glad the team has decided to proceed with a sequel. Suikoden I and II are such a great one-two punch, I can't begin to imagine what an Eiyuden II would look like.

Now, if only Konami would get themselves to work on that Suikoden remaster, so I can replay the hell out of that one, too, then this would be the best year for gaming I'd have had in a while.

Yay! Thank you for the impressive write-up of the series. I've found a lot to love in every game from the series I've played, and nothing else quite scratches the Suikoden/Eiyuden itch.

Suikoden 5 makes me extra sad because the cell shading and character animation was gorgeous, and the silent protag got extra emotive. There was so much care put into every entry in the series, though I still feel bad for the limitations that Kawano had to deal with for Suikoden 4.

I'm somehow even more salty about not getting the (also limited) PSP spin-off after reading this, though lol, well done!

EDIT: And a shoutout for Kawano's Shadow of Memory, too!! One of the more fun (and unhinged) adventure games of the experimental Konami PS2 era. Not to mention the eng dub was unintentionally a hilarious masterpiece with the MC mispronouncing every German name including his own and an agender homunculous voiced by an unnecessarily sexy Charles Martinet (aka OG Mario lmao)

haven't gotten to play eiyuden yet, but spoil me this
do they have their own viki and jeanne?
it is in my humblest opinion that one can't called a suikoden without these 2

Yes, there is eventually character that let's you fast-travel.

As a fan and player of all the main Suikoden games, this article pleases me. I look forward to playing Eiyuden once I get my hands on it
