I trust that this thing is very high quality...but that there are large solid blocks of paint makes it feel cheaper than I'm sure it actually is. This is particularly so with the glossy metal paint areas, where there looks to be exposed mechanical parts that look all melded together due to the mold-work like what I see with much cheaper robot toys.

The magnets are awesome though. Good magnets are strangely expensive.

As a child growing up in the UK I loved Star Fleet. I was totally oblivious at the time to the fact that it was a Japanese show, I just lumped it in with all of the other Gerry Anderson puppet shows like Thunderbirds and Terrahawks.

The Star Fleet version of the intro is just great:

I dunno why they didn't use this for the opening instead: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RhoKjhSrkhw. It gets me more pumped than the actual intro.

And speaking of SoCs, they really need to do a reprint of the Ideon one. That damn thing is too rare now.

Lastly, this magnet stuff looks cool. I hope it gets more popular.

Used to watch Star Fleet on Betamax tape rentals. Recently learned that the professor was voiced by Peter Marinker. No wonder I had such a soft spot for the Manga UK dub of the Patlabor movies.

Just a minor correction: X-Bomber was also aired in Italy with its correct name, though the translation was sometimes....odd. It was shown on local TV stations ,and AFAIK it's been a while since it aired somewhere.

EDIT: For those curious, this is the Italian theme song made for the series (as it was pretty common back then):

Despite its price, the toy looks pretty ugly...but I'd say Dai-X's design wasn't that good to begin with.
