You know, every time that I think that maybe, just maybe, I should watch Akibaranger... I'm reminded that no, I'll take my cheesy breakdancing fruit samurai instead.
Not to say the toy and the review aren't awesome... but Akibaranger just scares me. |

Maybe this isn't the point of this column but I'd like to see more statues (non posable) figures being reviewed, if possible. I guess there might not be a lot to say about them and they sometimes get very expensive but I feel like we're seeing a lot of the same things in these reviews.
I'd also suggest like themed articles... "Gashapon Day!" and a handful of various gashapon are reviewed, since one by itself probably wouldn't make an article. Or "Nendoroid Petite Collection!" and various Nendoroid Petite sets are looked at. That being said, I enjoy this column and love figures so keep at it! |

I've tried watching Super Sentai and... I just... I can't. It's better than the Western Power Rangers adaption, but it still is way too awkwardly silly and cheesy for me. I'm a moderate Kamen Rider fan, though, and Gaim has been treating me nicely (especially since I'm a huuuuge Urobuchi fan). But man, oh man, if Akibaranger wasn't one of the best tokusatsu TV shows I have ever seen... It's hard to advertise because it's so... weird and silly and creepy on the outset... but it has a LOT of heart underneath, especially in the first season. And plot. You have to be very, very conscious of the tropes being thrown around to truly enjoy it to its full potential. It is a HUGE spoof of Super Sentai and hero tokusatsu (and tokusatsu/anime otaku) from start to finish, and probably the best parody of anything I've never seen before. I still don't think I'd be interested in buying these toys, since I'm not really interested in their design, but the whole concept of them is hilarious and worth reading reviews like these. If they were really, really cheap and accessible to me, I would most certainly not be that embarrassed to display them on one of my own shelves. So really, the concept of an anime waifu being the grip of the knife and the basis for the armor sounds incredibly creepy and would usually leave a sour taste in my mouth, but Akibaranger treats the content with so much fluff and awareness, I'm not bothered by it at all. I was happily shocked when that happened in the show. |

I stopped by because of this vital short clip that will explain absolutely everything. Left out: the immediate cut to the other team members and the villain wincing and saying "this is the nerdiest thing I've ever seen".
Anyway, it is as you suspect. We keep to posables and toys because as beautiful as a lot of the PVCs that are out there are, there is precious little to say from a product review standpoint. The example I often use is that (the late, RIP) Heisei Democracy used to do amazing reviews of PVC at 400 words and 50 pictures. Also, anything worth talking about is 120+, and in the world of action figures 120 typically gets you something extravagant. Thanks for reading the column! |

This review made make a account. I just wanted to give excellent feed back on this review, the videos are what made it for me. I really would like ANN to carry on this format of pictures, text and video. I found it really informative and entertaining.
My other suggestion would be for some time to do a gaschapon set review or like loads of mini reviews in one articles. Really enjoying this column keep up the good work! |

I had to read this twice to make sure I didn't smack my head off something and in my daze, create a new account and post the same information twice. Glad to see someone else thinks that would be a good idea, though. |

I also agree with the others that mini figure sets or Gashapon sets, based on the bang for the buck or whatever criteria you'd like to set, would be a lot of fun to get. There probably isn't a ton out there that would be worth covering, but all that likely means is that you can be picky and choose to only review the ones that might be of interest to you and everyone else. At the very least, it'd be an interesting experiment to keep in mind.

Akibaranger is one of those obscure gems everyone should know about. This show is pure brilliance.

I own both versions of the guns and one of the swords, which were discounted heavy! Great show and needs to brought over uncut.
