It's also sometimes in the anime itself, at least Your Name and Weathering with You had it at the very end of the movie next to the copyright text. Can't recall any TV anime doing that though.

That was an interesting question. I'm curious what makes it so hard for counterfeit copies to copy the image in the way the article describes. Do people just put it on incorrectly by accident when counterfeiting? Or is there some aspect that makes replication extremely difficult?

Ah I was hoping somebody would ask about the Content Japan logo, and this Answerman deliver. I was hoping the answer was precise, and detailed enough for a lot of people that were baffled by the logo.

Thanks for answering that. And yes before you asked, my BD+DVD copy of Nausicaa has the Content Japan logo on the back, and on both disc.

I think that it's more that it simplifies the process of taking action against pirated media. Rather than a multitude of different works by many different companies, the presence of a single trademarked logo across all of them would simplify the effort of a takedown. Rather than prove "unique work x belongs to y company" it becomes "common logo z is trademarked by y company" and the company enforcing the trademark on the logo doesn't even have to identify the particular work in bootleged media, just that it infringed on their trademark.
