Oh, don’t worry. There will be spectacle and magic within the first three episodes of Ancient Magus Bride, especially episode 3, having seen them. Though if you are expecting a TV production to be theatrical quality the entire time, I’d say that is excessive, generally speaking.
Edit: For Just Because, I think that while it hasn’t been polished, I think there is some nice enough direction and some good character animation, such that being so dismissive of the series as mediocre is grating. I can respect it’s depiction of high school is not relatable to Jacob, but not believable? You can’t believe people having a relatively non-toxic high school life? My high school life wasn’t ideal and I wouldn’t go back to it given the choice, but it wasn’t so horrible that I can’t believe that some may not have had a bad time and might be nostalgic. I didn’t think I would care to hear more of Jacob’s opinion on the show and I still don’t. To be clear, I can respect that you didn’t like it because you didn’t relate to it, but the aggressively dismissive attitude towards the show is something I don’t appreciate and I’m glad Nick is covering it. I'll go see Ready Player One/buy it on DVD if they quote Jacob's "Put it away...I don't want it..." as a review in the promotions.

This season I actually dropped a couple series after one episode pretty much everything I'm with the exception of Land of The Lustrous didn't get mentioned but considering that Time Bokan 2nd Season and ClassicaLoid 2nd Season are both odd children's educational series I can't blame many for not watching them.
Two Car was something I ended picking up just it's an original by Studio Silver Link and it plays with some tropes. Also it has nice racing animation Blend S is one those series I got into because 4chan seemingly won't shut up about it. It's very much a cute girls doing cute things Anime with a gimmick but I like Maika as the sort of central charcter. Himouto! Umaru-Chan R was something I didn't know I was looking forward to but season one ended up being a surprise favorite for me. I wish I could share the excitement others have for Magus's Bride but I didn't care for the Manga so it's kind of in the same place that Attack On Titan is for me. Wow! Don't try and sell me so hard on INUYASHIKI LAST HERO! (LOL) From the description sounds like something I'd really enjoy but I think I'll wait for it to get three episodes than binge watch those and reserve judgement after that. Other than that I'm surprisingly re-watching three series (Basilisk: Kouga Ninpou Chou, Flying Witch, and To LOVE-Ru Season One) as well. I hope the Heaven's Feel Movie trilogy turns out okay because that is my favorite route. Part of me hopes that one of the "bad ends" gets picked for the ending. If Mind of Steel ended up being the ending that would be great. |

Concerning The Ancient Magus Bride:
That is not a cow's skull (I really doubt there is a cow with teeth like that). According to the author's afterword of volume 2, spoiler[it is a huge dog skull* with a goat's horns. Also it feels less like solid bone and more like a taunt membrane, if you touch it. With sort of a matte texture not slick.] *spoiler[Which raises the question, do dogs have molars?] |

Yes. It was good to hear I'm not alone in being wary of the potential Gantzification of Inuyashiki. I hate Gantz with a passion, but Inuyashiki looks great, so I'm hoping something short circuits the author's tendencies toward crap. |

I don't think it was agressively dismissive and you might read a little more into it than he really meant. I agree that it's certainly believable. I didn't have the best high school experience ever but it wasn't bad by any means either, so I'm a little surprised for how many reviewers here it apparently was such a horrible experience. That being said, there is ample reason to be dismissive about Just because. If you like it, more power to you, but the show is essentially about nothing. Even after episode two it's just one of those boring slice of life/romance shows without anything special about it. Now if that's your cup of tea, great, but that someone would be dismissive about a show that has virtually no plot, story, boring characters, a completely uninteresting premise (obviously all subjective) and no hook to carry it anywhere, seems to be perfectly understandable. For example with Tsuki ga kirei (which i liked) you at least had that cute and shy and awkward factor which made it somewhat compelling. Just because has...nothing? Just bland characters and the premise of a completely vague transfer student coming in for his last semester. There really isnt much to like here, imo. On a sidenote the character designs/animation seemed kind of weird to me, especially transfer student guys hair seemed liked one blob of blue; backgrounds looked nice though. Im really not trying to be contrarian, I just dont see what makes that show, to borrow Jacobs word, anything but mediocre. |

I read the novel, and I thought the trailer looks pretty good. So, looking forward to the movie. |

With Inuyashiki I understand the comparisons to Gantz since it is from the same person but to me it doesn't have that nihilistic feel to it. Inuyashiki might have been beaten down by life and has a family that is shitty to him but the first time he used his super powers was to protect a homeless man. Inuyashiki wants to be a hero and he freely chooses that path which gives it a sense of optimism. I have seen several people on Twitter complain that the Inuyashiki must have done something to his children for them to treat him that way but that is something that often happens because a father is overly meek. Granted it isn't something that is usually told in anime which is generally aimed at younger audiences but sadly that situation is very believable.

I wish I could redo high school for a lot of reasons, but it was by no means toxic around me, and, if I'm being completely honest, most anime that portray high school as a pretty chill, almost idyllic place are getting close to my own experience. I was genuinely surprised as a high schooler that most of my peers were kind of just normal nice people(fiction made it sound a lot worse!). There was very little bullying or toxicity and everyone was generally friendly. I'm sad to hear that was not the case for you, Jacob. But as others noted, Just Because!'s portrayal is certainly not unbelievable as far as my own experience.
Also, it is a pretty nicely animated show. I think "polished" is definitely the wrong word, and I can see why the color design wouldn't work for many people, but Pine Jam has a knack for conveying pretty exceptional personality in most of their work so far, and this is no different. Even if they are at times a little looser than some would like. As far as comparing it to URAHARA, I'd definitely put them in a similar camp as far as having unpolished, but passionate productions, rather than pitting them against each other. URAHARA contrasted with Magus Bride might be more appropriate, if you want to draw that comparison. As for Rie Matsumoto and getting blacklisted... nope. Nah, that's not what happened. She stated in an interview that she had done what she wanted with the franchise and didn't want to return for the sequel. She was definitely asked to be a part of it. And as to what she's up to right now, educated speculation says she might be working with a certain producer on something where she has significant creative control(possibly directing an original film). He was the producer who introduced her to Bones in the first place, but I can't remember his name at the moment. |

Genki Kawamura. I’ve heard the same thing about Matsumoto. Hopefully it comes to fruition, as I’d love to see a film with her at the reins. |

I was literally just about to send in a question asking if Jacob would ever do an entire episode on Danganronpa.
#prayersanswered Also, is this going to spoil all material currently out? I'm just finishing Chapter 3 of V3, but some asshole on Steam already spoiled the ending for me, so I'm kind of in the "want to avoid spoilers but also probably already knows everything" zone. |
