The He-Man theme! Zac's affinity for Skeletor had to leave its mark on this show eventually.
Sorry to hear about Philly stealing the chimichanga. At least, in a broad sense, the food didn't go to waste...

I don't think Jacob explicitly said how much of Monogatari he's seen. If it's only the earlier seasons/arcs (Bake, Nise, possibly Neko: Kuro) I'd be really curious to hear what he thinks of some of the stuff that comes later on in Second Season, particularly when Koyomi's not around.

If Macross is eventually available to be licensed, my big question is how much a Funimation is willing to pay for it; 1 million dollars? I am saying this because I doubt its ardent (but probably small) fanbase warrants paying more than a few hundred thousand dollars for it. I figure only Amazon and Netflix might pay crazy money for a three decades old franchise.
I am not sure if Zac was saying that Sentai is making a big deal about phasing out DVD's, but I saw some fans on the threads acting as if the end of anime DVD's is something that is going to drastically affect their lives in a negative way forever. Who doesn't want to watch anime on 1080p or a higher definition.

Have only made it through the first 20 minutes or so, but on the topic of the old Final Fantasies:
- Along with the "Precious Moments" aesthetic, the other thing that worked against FF IX back in the day was that it was such a sharp turn back to pure fantasy, when the series as a whole had been trending more sci-fi in FF's VI through VIII. By the time of VIII, swords were basically anachronistic, which may be why they had to become "gunblades" instead.
- To really be a FF snob, dismiss the entire mainline series in favor of Final Fantasy Tactics.
- Getting to explain the numbering is indeed nerd lore paradise. It's almost as good as Beatles nerds explaining the track listings of all the pre-Sgt. Pepper's albums, and how that was further complicated by the arrival of the CD. Rose can explain further, I'm sure.

Thank you Jacob, for standing up for rationality. I don't know where the hate for pineapple on pizza came from, or why people who dislike it feel the constant need to talk about how terrible it is, but it's nice to have someone actually espouse the opinion that it's a pretty solid topping!(and honestly that it's okay to like it!) I don't even like pineapple much, but it's one of the better toppings on a good pizza. It really balances the flavor with many other toppings, especially beef or bacon. And also agreed on onions. I'm not going to be a mental 5 year old and tell everyone who likes onions on pizza that they should feel ashamed or that they are ruining the food, but if anything is overpowering on a pizza, it's them, and I'm not a huge fan, generally.

Yeah I can confirm the issues with Hi-Evolution - or perhaps more accurately, have already spoken to them on this site - though it only really affected the second part of the movie. The first part was in my opinion amazing, granted Eureka 7 was one of the first anime I saw, but the movie does have some really great direction and animation. It did seem to be what you would expect from a theatrical production, which I can't say for a number of anime movies that I've seen this year or heard reviews of unfortunately. As long as the next movies don't have the issue that the second part had, I'll be more than satisfied.
For Macross, I haven't seen any of it, but I have wanted to see Frontier for, you guessed it, Ranka Lee. Though after seeing a clip of Do you Remember Love? recently, I may watch the original since Amazon has it, though I have a few series above it on my watch list (Hell Girl, rewatching LoGH, and Cromartie High School, which just recently became available on CR, though weirdly they haven't announced it.)
As for the great pizza debate, I don't care for pineapples on my pizza, but I also don't care if other people want to put them on a pizza. I don't like onions on a pizza either, but then again I don't like onions in general. Unless it is really weird - a customer at the grocery store I go to asked for sushi on the pizza - I don't really care what people put on a pizza or really just about any food. Though not cheesesteaks. If you even ask for the wrong kind of cheese, there will be words. Well, actually I might just look at you funny.

I've been watching LOGH myself in parts and I find that a really manageable way to consume it. I find that watching an episode or two before bed is a good way to wind down while still consuming enough of it to feel like I'm making progress. It's a shockingly mellow show for a story all about war and politics.

Never seen anything from Sentai at Target. A few people have reported seeing Sentai stuff at Wal-Mart, though it doesn't have a regular spot like Funimation and Viz do.

Yeah, I've seen the first 20 episodes or so and found the show weirdly... relaxing? It isn't iyashikei but that's the feeling I got when I'd watch a few episodes in the evenings.

After finishing the episode, 2 more cents:
- God, at this point, what is Harmony Gold even getting out of holding the whole Macross franchise hostage? Is licensing that new Robotech comic book really worth it to them? Or do they genuinely think they're going to get the Robotech Hollywood movie done before the rights lapse in 2021, after they've made so little progress over all these years? At best, we can hope for a race-to-finish-the-movie-before-your-rights-lapse fiasco, like the Atlas Shrugged trilogy, or The Day The Clown Cried. At that point, they might as well just ship the finished film directly to Zac for CYS.
- My favorite anime-movie-in-theater was Madoka Magica Rebellion. Had to drive to suburban Detroit (2 hrs) for it and stay the night because it was a late show in Winter. Worth it. First, because of the tall black dude behind me in line crossplaying Kyoko, which was just super awesome (I'm a strong proponent of anyone cosplaying any character, as anyone who's met me at a con can likely attest). Second, because when the credits rolled, you could tell this sellout crowd had just been utterly stunned and had no idea how to deal with what they'd just seen happen.

It is all about the money. That's what it has always been about. The Harmony Gold naysayers can gnash their teeth all the want, but if Harmony Gold wasn't making a profit off of Robotech, they wouldn't be putting more money into the property.
Compared to previous Robotech comic books, this new reboot is a pretty slick affair. The covers alone make it desirable to purchase. I like Robotech and Macross both, and I too wish we could purchase western editions of the Macross franchise. But the hard truth is that unless the Japanese companies come to the table, nothing is going to happen. If the Japanese companies had thought it was worthwhile and profitable to fight Harmony Gold in court they would have done so long ago. That might change if Harmony Gold started making a lot of money off of Robotech, because then the paradigm would have shifted.
