That's fair. Plus he also has Baki vs. Kengan to take care of. |

Considering the comments I think I'm behind the times here, but what is with those negatives in the review? They aren't addressed in the write up at all... I would love a detailed explanation on how the show "continues to flag at conservative dog whistles like age of consent discourse, predatory queers, and biological determinism"?
I watched rhe first season a while back and thought the show was somewhere between fun and stupid, but getting to that part of the review gave me so much whiplash I think I hurt my neck. |

This review feels like that “Stop having fun!” meme. Not to mention the baseless comparisons to Power Slap, which is pretty much condemned by any martial arts fan who would enjoy the craziness here. These shows harken back to that 80s era of martial arts tournament films in the vein of Bloodsport, and that’s fun for a lot of people. Not to mention the characters do get developed plenty.

Hard to say though for me. I mean since this series is obsessed with fights, the characters don't get too much time to breath or interact meaningfully. Especially since some fights are solved in an anticlimatic fashion meant to come across as a twist in regards to who might be the stronger. Like the opposite of Hajime no Ippo which doesn't treat loses as something bad for the fighters and also gives them plenty of chapters to rest and get better. Even Takehiko Inoue said something similar about Vagabond when claiming that if he gives Musashi several fights and no rests he would be forced to kill him. |

...Yeah, I know people told me that in a previous thread on this reviewer that his reviews should stay up.
....But I'm sorry, the sheer volume of poor faith towards this (And the Garouden review from the same person) really makes it hard to take anything they say seriously at all, something you shouldn't have happen with reviews, whether they be positive or negative. As noted, the negatives in his final score aren't even in the write up. |

I’m sorry, but it’s actually a bit confusing to me how this review was allowed through in its current state. It just harkens back to the shield hero debacle from way back, where almost any discourse or review that came out for it screamed bad faith initially. The only conclusion I get from these reviews is literally that the reviewer appears to have a pretty big axe to grind against the series. That’s literally the last thing I should be thinking about or noticing when reading a review that’s supposed to be objective. The worst of it being the angle that the series somehow has a conservative slant to it, compared to Baki’s ‘queer’ one… the fact this nonsensical comparison was made to begin with immediately makes me incredulous about anything the reviewer has to say on the two series. And given the discourse that’s been plaguing every review produced by this person, I don’t think I’m the only one.

Nah there are plenty of negative reviews on this site toward so many shows, and I think given how the reviewer has bothered to actually review the show in PARTS shows that he cares enough about what he's saying to be thorough. Could've easily slapped it all in one big rant. Just because one of your favourite got blasted doesn't mean the review should be taken down. It is, at the end of the day, someone else's take on a show. They're just getting paid for it, unlike us who are here in the comments. One of my favourite shows and favourite english dubs of all time is Fate/Zero, and one of the first reviews ANN ever did of the show was the guy straight up ripping into it and calling it a snoozefest lol. animenewsnetwork.com/review/fate/zero/blu-ray-box-set-1 You don't gotta get riled up and angry over every little thing someone else says about a show you like man, it's just their opinion. Feel free to start writing and sharing your own reviews if you feel it was judged unfairly. |
