In other gaming news, Square is seemingly preparing a remake of Star Ocean 2;
https://www.rpgsite.net/news/14389-square-enix-support-website-features-a-logo-for-a-star-ocean-2-remake I really hope they don't botch that... And hopefully the bonus dungeon isn't as glitchy as last time... |

Funnily enough, I had no idea FES was a “special” version of P3, I just picked it up because it was the only way I could play the game at the time. So my first exposure to the game was through its female protag, and to me it feels straight up wrong to not have those options available to me.

What does this mean? Reload is being directed by Takuya Yamaguchi. Hashino is busy with Metaphor. Also, Atlus later clarified that some of the features from FES and P will be in Reload, but some won't, notably The Answer and FeMC. I feel like Metaphor was the biggest Japanese showing in the past week, though it's not technically a new announcement. Last edited by Dark Mac on Fri Jun 16, 2023 1:31 pm; edited 1 time in total |

Given that one creative choice that the fans hate to this day not like they can hurt the series any worse if this remake isn’t good.
I’m not the type of person to question anyone for their kinks but….
To be fair given all the characters are (or at first blush supposed to be) based off their Sega Genesis/Sega CD appearance that makes sense not as weird though as Sonic Mania opting to use Sonic’s original sprite instead of his Sonic 3/S&K sprite.
Another One Piece game that comes off as filler or another one that predictably covers or features characters or elements from the original manga/anime such as Crocodile & Alabasta Last edited by BadNewsBlues on Fri Jun 16, 2023 3:56 pm; edited 1 time in total |

The only Atlus game that caught my attention, in a good way was the fantasy one (Metaphor: ReFantazio, I think.) P3 and 5 Tactica both seem too safe, though in different ways. 3 being so intentionally constrained is an unnecessary L for Atlus to hold- there are so many different versions that unifying things for the "complete experience" seems a clear play. But I hope at least bits like the Aigis social link carry over. P5 Tactica, I should be more excited for: I love SRPGs, and I like P5's cast and concepts. But I'm a bit jaded; my first reaction was "boy, they'll never stop milking this game." ReFantazio, by contrast, at least seems different. Thats not to say they won't all be decent or even great games- or better, interesting ones. Heck, P3 Reload could completely change the narrative, which I would be down for. We'll see.
Speaking of changing the narrative- I'm a lot more excited for FF7 Rebirth than I ever was for part 1. I've said as much elsewhere, but while I didn't much care for how it happened, having the story be blown wide open with possibilities is exciting to me. |

I assume it'll just be like First Departure R and just be an HD port with some enhanced tweaks and balancing rather than an actual remake. I'd love it if it came to PC this time along with First Departure R and not be stuck on console this time.
Some people on Twitter have a weird obsession with hating on Hashino, which is kid of odd to do so and still call yourself a Persona fan since he's the soul of modern Persona games and 3, 4, and 5. I could get a fan of 1 and 2 not liking him or the direction the series went, but there's also people who claim to like those games but seem to hate a lot of the core elements and values of the Persona series. But I suppose that "Persona fan really excited to play Persona for the first time" meme exists for a reason. Seems as if most people aren't that upset about lack of female main character of The Answers as long as the other FES improvements are in the remake. Most people never touched the female player character and The Answers was controversial even when it came out given it was mostly dungeon grinding. And yeah, agree that Metaphor looks amazing and was easily the highlight of the week for RPG fans. Glad to see Hashino's project finally coming along and not just vaporware. |

I was gonna say, Reload is under a different team since Hashino has been working on Metaphor since Persona 5 Royal. No need to hang him over the Reload team's collective head. The Answer isn't going to be there, but let's not pretend the Answer didn't have a divisive reception among the playerbase. We'll see if there's a Reload Royal update or something. -Sonic Superstars: I will say, it's about time people stopped being hung up over Yuji Naka. The man's past finally caught up with him and the industry is better off without him. -FFVII Remake: The creative team is going to make a mess of this. They can't do meta to save their lives. Hoo boy, this is going to be a fiasco. As for other stuff, I'm looking forward to the Ghost Trick remaster, Metaphor looks neat, and Fire Emblem: The Blazing Sword is coming out for NSO next week |

Source on Hashino being "brought back" for Reload? Because aside from there being little to no crossover between the R&D divisions of Atlus, and Hashino himself seemingly being done with Persona after 5, I haven't seen anything implying he's involved with the remake at all.
I'd argue Metaphor is also playing it too safe, as it looks an awful lot like "Persona: Swords & Sorcery Edition." Which is the one thing I didn't want it be, but hey, that's on me for somehow still not being jaded enough to automatically expect disappointment from this industry. |

Anyone else felt like having a modern remake of Persona 3 was like wishing on a monkey's paw?
Persona 3 was and still is one of my fondest story driven game. Definitely the one that got me interested in jrpg games. The popularity of it got me into the franchise and I played the rest of the persona games P1>P2>P4Golden in that order and while each had their ups and downs P3P was my favorite. Later I watched the cutscenes on youtube for The answer cause I couldn't find an affordable copy of FES at the time. Then P5 came along with in all it's glorious style and while I enjoyed all of the improvements especially the confidant abilities, it couldn't steal my heart. That belonged to P3. Still while I enjoyed seeing all the traction P5 specifically gave to the audience it was a bit sad because P5 was just so much of an improvement over dated mechanics that most people I know who tried to play P3(any iteration) after getting used to P5 couldn't get far enough in the game to get invested in the characters and the story. Because, well the gameplay IS tedious and grindy. So what I've wanted for years was for Atlus to remake P3P into something modern, because to me P3 was what set the tone for all future persona games and I-we get... this... blatant cash grab. Ok maybe that's cruel, the P3P 'remaster' was an actual cash grab, in this one they put some effort into it but not really as much as they should. So I'm just gonna get this out of they way and say this is definitely a stripped down version of P3 so that they can release an updated port in a few years. They've done it with EVERY mainline series up till now, they aren't changing that formula. This one however is the most obvious because we know what's been cut. There's no reason why they couldn't include everything in the P3 storyline into this remake. I know that the chances of they actually producing the next port hinges on how well this one sells as it determines popularity but personally it just feels terrible to pay for what seems to be a half assed project. Still who knows, maybe people will complain or Atlus will add some things that actually warrant paying full price for a fake 'remake'. I love the P3 storyline but it didn't deserve this. |

You may be right. The sad part is "High Fantasy Persona" (My take was "thats very clearly somewhere smack dab between mainline SMT and Persona,") is still the most interesting of the three, on a conceptual level. At least these are vaguely new characters! The trailer also seems to indicate a class system of sorts, which are fun to play around with. |

I genuinely do not get the doomposting. If you want to talk about a stripped down version of Persona 3 that would be Portable. Portable was widely panned for gutting the story, gameplay, and cutscenes and turning the game into a visual novel mostly conveyed through text. We already have clarification that they're adding new stuff to this version, like the social links and other features from FES. The only thing that's missing is Answer, which in terms of story was hit or miss for a lot of people, and in terms of gameplay was a complete slog so I don't see the big deal with not having Answers but everything else from FES. This will hands down be way better than that Portable remaster they put out last year that had people furious when they found out it was the Portable version being ported and not the original or FES. I don't see how anyone who was completely fine with Portable would be upset by this version. The only people I could see being upset are Kotone fans who just NEED a female main character in their games and have complained about it ever since Portable, but they're in the very small minority of the fandom. Oh, and the people who miss the old English voice actors, I suppose. But everything else looks like an improvement over the original game so far. Now, if we get a bunch of weird story changes, censorship, and other things that are prone with modern remakes then I could understand being mad. But we have no real information yet. And then there's the potential localization being censored like Persona 5 Royal, but we'll have uncensored mods on PC at least and can fix that easily enough. |

The biggest things I've seen fans ask for in the remake are a new epilogue besides Answers and improved social links like making Toriumi finally datable. Those I could definitely get behind. After how popular and well received Kawakami was in 5, they should definitely fix how they dropped the ball with Toriumi in 3.

There's been confirmation from the devs that the male party member social links will not be P3R, just like in standard p3. There will be side stories for them, but also for the female party members as well. Also, tartarus is getting a visual upgrade but stays the same. There is a run/dash button in tartarus. Lastly, tiredness is removed.

Fake remake? Don’t get me wrong the thought process regarding what the remake is and isn’t going to have is unquestionably dubious. But I would hope that the people treating this game as somehow being the most inferior version of Persona 3 because of lacking certain content remember that the original version of 3 was also lacking in content and objectively speaking is the weakest version of the all the games. So I don’t really get the “fake remake” thing.
It came out January of this year.
Removing a tacky joke involving two stereotypical gay men harassing Ryuji is not something to bemoan about “being” censored. Especially given the incredibly real and dangerous problems Gay, Trans, Non Binary individuals face over people thinking they’re perverts who’re especially dangerous towards kids.
Kawakami at least felt like a fleshed out character in 5 I don’t remember Toriumi feeling like that much of a fleshed out character. So her not being a love interest didn’t really feel like something that was missed. Compared to Sae from Persona 5 but that’s another discussion. I find the idea of a creator being involved in a remake of his own game being presented as a bad thing quite humorous.
99% based on the original game, but with a few bonuses and quality of life tweaks thrown in along with better graphics sounds like the truest form of a remake, which is perfectly fine in my book. It's what I want every remake to be: rather than a new "interpretation" or "reimagining" that has become the trend. |
