I am definitely surprised that Oshi no Ko overtook G-Witch. Both of them are hit shows, but I am under the impression that G-Witch is a bigger deal for more people. To me the top 3 are:

1. Skip and Loafer
2. Oshi no Ko
T3. G-Witch
T3. Vinland Saga 2

Oshi no Ko is the best anime I've ever watched. Hands down. I am sad that KamiKatsu is so low because I gave it a 10/10 and thought it was brilliant.

It may seem that way because of franchise connections, but OnK's appeal is actually vastly broader.

I don't trust MAL rankings as accurate gauges of title quality, but MAL is a much more reliable indicator of title popularity within fandom. Based on that, OnK is the second-biggest title of the season, behind only Demon Slayer's Swordsmith Village Arc (and only narrowly so) and well ahead of even heavy hitters like Vinland Saga s2 and Hell's Paradise; it has several times more "seen" rankings that G-Witch, in fact. IIRC, these are numbers similar to what Spy x Family was pulling in at the end of its first season, and that was the biggest new series of 2022. Of course, having a smash hit OP - it's the currently the #1 song in the world not from the U.S. - certainly isn't hurting, either.

I think OnK's quality was also just even (and high) throughout the series, while G Witch kind of started slow, became pretty exciting and executed well in the middle, but didn't really nail the landing. Didn't outright fumble it, either, but I'm not surprised that left enough room for OnK to wiggle its way up above G Witch even among ANN readers.

It was significantly underappreciated and the artwork, though heavily criticized, was quite good overall and with numerous art styles sprinkled throughout. A tour-de-force actually and something I'd seen from only a few shows ever. Only the writing and story treatment kept it down but it was still miles better than My One Hit Kill Sister, etc..
