It's the Japanese Metalocalypse. Which probably explains how the joke can wear thin very easily. Now I love Dethklok, but there's a reason there's five of them and not one.

I enjoyed DMC but you can tell that its made by a guy who isnt a metal fan. All of the acts committed by krauser are the kind of things fans outside the genre believe happen within it. That being said it sure was fun to watch it all play out and stuff like the pig race had my side splitting.
You're not wrong, it did drag on and in the end just maintains the status quo. The anime actually came out with some good tunes too, i particularly like "slash killer".

The Mask is considered an old movie... I'm 29? What happened, where did time go?

A agree with every word of the review. About 6 Volumes and a bit more story would have been better. 7/10
I will be 26 soon and we are not "old" until 50. So relax.

Good to see a mention of the live action movie. It really is my favourite version in so many ways.

Has there ever been an explanation why Soichi ever joined a band like this in the first place? Or would knowing that take away the point of the joke?

I think there's a throwaway line about it being his day job of sorts.

Good question: unless I'm forgetting, they never do explain how he joined the band. It's too bad, since that could have made a great flashback storyline, or at least a good one-off joke.

I forgot to mention that one of the things I like about this manga is that it makes hipsters look *AWFUL*. It makes so much fun of hipsters. It's too bad he never followed through with a storyline about the "Four Kings of Chic", the hipster overlords, who are offhandedly mentioned in one early chapter.

thenix: The comic's even older.
Anyway, DMC got old, but I did wanna see that Esper comedy thing from the guy. Though Kodansha USA is stalling on that, and Vertical won't touch it, so no go.

nope, i was waiting for it but it never happened. Really gotta wonder how in the hell he wound up playing any metal at all and why he's so good at that but cack at the cheesy pop shite he loves.

The crowd chants of "Go to DMC!" are hilarious for anyone from southeast Michigan, as that is very close to the advertising slogan ("Go to the DMC") of the Detroit Medical Center hospital. I am guessing it is sheer coincidence, but it is extremely entertaining coincidence.
As much as I loved the anime, I had to refuse a friend's request that I hump Tokyo Tower when I visited Japan. After all, I didn't even have a codpiece with me.

Reading the Japanese version several years ago, I'm gonna yell to you that it's not "Krauser", it's "Krauser-san"!!
First time I read it, it really brought me laughter. The joke is crude but hell, I enjoyed it a lot. Though as the time goes by, as you say, it's getting boring in the newer chapters.
Also, I watched K-ON because I heard that Krauser-san made an appearance.

Did they ever release "Mad Monster" in any form? There was a disc with a track called that but it was just a bunch of noise, not the song that can be heard in the one episode.

What's great about the anime adaptation is that you get to hear the kind of music Soichi wants to make, and its the lamest kind of pansy music beyond what you could even imagine.
